Marjorie Taylor Greene says Haley has the ‘surge’ but her flubs aren’t ‘very smart’

KEOKUK, Iowa — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) amplified former President Donald Trump‘s criticism of one-time United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley as she campaigns for Trump in Iowa before the opening 2024 Republican primary nominating contest.

“I think you’re seeing her surge,” Greene told the Washington Examiner on Thursday in Keokuk, Iowa. “DeSantis has fallen off, and some of the people that were supporting DeSantis may be turning to Nikki Haley. But Nikki Haley’s going to lose as well, so she’s not anything to worry about.”

During her 50-minute remarks to a crowd of roughly 200 people in a town of 10,000 in southeast Iowa, including a couple who drove 3 1/2 hours to hear her speak, Greene described Haley as a warmongering “neo-con” and former President George W. Bush “in heels.” Trump and his super PAC MAGA, Inc. have now released two attack ads against Haley in New Hampshire, where she is polling closer to the former president compared to in Iowa, which holds caucuses on Jan. 15.

“Oh my gosh. She doesn’t even want you to call illegal aliens criminals,” Greene said, referring to resurfaced 2015 remarks from the then-South Carolina governor. “How dare you! That might insult the migrants.”

“She’s up there in New Hampshire saying, ‘We’ve got to fix what Iowa does. They’re going to vote for President Trump,'” she added. “Goodness. That wasn’t very good. That wasn’t very smart, but, you know, ‘birdbrain.’ Whatever.”

Greene, who says she is on Trump’s short list for vice president, defended the former president’s light campaign schedule and overarching strategy, despite distractions from his civil and criminal cases. Conversely, she criticized President Joe Biden for campaigning on the idea he is defending democracy before Saturday’s third anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and amid Trump’s pledge to be his supporters’ “retribution.”

“People don’t care. Everyone’s over it,” Greene told the Washington Examiner. “No matter how much the media wants to shove Jan. 6, and no matter how much the Democrats want to talk about Jan. 6, all of these people right here, I guarantee you, they remember [Black Lives Matter] riots.”

“I don’t hear anybody talking about revenge,” she said. “I only hear that for y’all that come with those questions. President Trump is excited to get back in the White House. He’s excited to bring his policies back and also the new plans that he has, and all of us can’t wait for him to get there.”

Immigration, particularly her push to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorkas, was among her loudest applause lines. In her interview with the Washington Examiner, Greene expressed confidence House Republicans had the votes to impeach Mayorkas as the House Homeland Security Committee commences proceedings against the secretary.
