A high-ranking official with the Transportation Security Administration was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Atlanta last week on an outstanding warrant issued by the Port St. Lucie Police Department in Florida, the department said Thursday.

TSA Assistant Federal Security Director Maxine McManaman was detained by border patrol upon landing in Atlanta from an international flight. McManaman has been charged with one count of forgery for her alleged role in the exploitation of a family member with dementia.

A TSA spokesperson said the agency was aware of McManaman’s arrest for a non-work-related incident, and McManaman is on leave pending further law enforcement action.

“TSA holds its employees to the highest professional and ethical standards and has no tolerance for misconduct on or off-duty,” the spokesperson told NBC News. “Any employee who fails to meet our fundamental ethical standards is held accountable.”

The arrest stems from allegations that McManaman and an alleged accomplice named Delroy Chambers Sr., her father, exploited a relative suffering from dementia by falsifying documents in their name, according to an investigation from Port St. Lucie Police. Their names were signed to the back of a quitclaim deed, which was allegedly signed by the grantor, who has dementia. However, investigators found that the grantor could not have signed the deed on the date listed because they were in Atlanta at the time.

Chambers was arrested in Port St. Lucie on Dec. 20, 2023, on two counts of exploitation of an elderly or disabled Adult – $50,000 or More, two counts of forgery, and simple neglect of an elderly or disabled adult. But he has since been bonded out of jail.

Chambers was also accused of failing to take care of his sick wife but has denied the abuse allegations and claimed the case is a “family thing.”

McManaman was detained at the Clayton County Jail in Georgia as of Friday and was awaiting extradition to St. Lucie County.
