Country musician Oliver Anthony revealed through social media that he has started work on his first album.
His statement follows a massively successful year in 2023, in which the small-town Virginia singer caught the attention of the music industry and the world with his viral hit, “Rich Men North of Richmond.” The song, which critiques U.S. politicians in Washington, skyrocketed to popularity upon release, earning over 109 million views on YouTube alone.
In announcing his next step, the singer revealed that he is recording his album inside a church in Georgia and described the chance he’s been given to work in music as “an incredible opportunity.”
“I don’t cry very often, but I have this week,” Anthony, whose real name is Christopher Anthony Lunsford, wrote on social media. “This is such an incredible opportunity. I have been so blessed to be given the chance to share my music with the world. I pray that these songs will help people get through the hard days to come. I love y’all. I won’t let you down.”
