Trump says he’s made up his mind on a VP pick: ‘I know who it’s going to be’

DES MOINES, Iowa – Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday at a Fox News town hall that he has decided who his vice presidential pick would be and indicated he was open to choosing someone who is in the race competing against him for the GOP nomination.

“I can’t tell you that really, I mean I know who it’s going to be,” Trump said when asked by Fox News moderators who he is considering to be his running mate.

When pressed again in a follow-up question, Trump was asked about whether he would be open to mending ties with any of the remaining presidential rivals still competing against him, to which he responded: “Oh sure, I will.”

The former president jokingly said he’s starting to like Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie after Christie dropped out of the race for the White House on Wednesday and was caught on a hot mic criticizing Trump’s rivals.

“I don’t see it. I don’t see it,” he said when asked if Christie would be his vice president. “That would be an upset, Christie for vice president.”

According to NBC News, Trump’s campaign attempted to downplay Trump’s remarks, with an adviser saying “nothing is finalized” about a vice presidential candidate.

The former president has not spoken much about naming a running mate throughout his campaign so far. In an interview this fall, he said he “likes the concept” of a woman as vice president. Trump’s former running mate, Mike Pence, challenged him for the GOP nomination, until he suspended his campaign in October.
