Trump warns seniors of ‘threat’ of Nikki Haley Social Security plan in new ad

Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign is warning New Hampshire voters about former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley‘s past statements on Social Security in an ad released on Thursday.

“Americans were promised a secure retirement. Nikki Haley’s plan ends that,” the narrator said in the 30-second spot titled “Threat From Within.”

The ad from Trump’s campaign is its second New Hampshire spot against Haley, who has picked up significant momentum in the state, even coming within single digits of the former president in a new poll. Trump’s campaign did not divulge its spending on the ad when asked by the Washington Examiner.

Haley also stands to gain the most from former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s dropping out of the race, as pollsters have pointed out.

“Haley’s plan cuts Social Security benefits for 82% of Americans,” the narrator said. “Trump will
never let that happen.”

“All of Donald Trump’s attack ads prove that he is terrified of Nikki Haley’s rise,” Haley communications director Nachama Soloveichik said. “This is a two-person race between Nikki’s conservative vision for a strong and proud America and Trump’s continued obsession with the chaos and drama of the past.”

The ad features Haley responding to a question on how she planned to manage entitlements, with her saying, “We say the rules have changed. We change retirement age to reflect life expectancy.”

“What we do know is 65 is way too low, and we need to increase that,” she told the interviewer about the retirement age.

The interview shown in the ad is from August 2023, and Haley’s full quote specifies that her suggested rule changes should be for people “in their 20s.”

“The way we deal with it is we don’t touch anyone’s retirement or anyone who’s been promised in,” she told Bloomberg Markets at the time.

During the ad, people of apparent retirement age are shown looking concerned and disappointed while some watch Haley’s comments on television.

Trump’s first ad against Haley in New Hampshire targeted her for past stances on illegal immigration and border security, taking aim at her for being weak while the former president projects strength on the topics.

Haley hasn’t gone after Trump in any campaign ads as she continues to walk the line of criticizing the former president without upsetting his strong base. But the super PAC supporting Haley’s bid has become more pointed in its attacks on Trump, coming out with its own New Hampshire ad on Thursday titled “Tantrum.”

The super PAC hit Trump for “lies,” “chaos,” and “drama,” accusing him of having temper tantrums.

“Donald Trump is feeling the pressure as Nikki Haley continues to gain momentum, and it’s clear that he can’t stand the heat as he does everything in his power to try to derail her. Haley has dealt with far worse than the former president, and her record speaks for itself. As Trump spends more time throwing tantrums in the courtroom than on the campaign trail, Haley is the only candidate who can challenge and defeat Joe Biden next fall,” Stand for America Fund spokeswoman Brittany Yanick said.
