Donald Trump says Jimmy Carter is ‘brilliant’ compared to Joe Biden

Former President Donald Trump compared President Joe Biden to former President Jimmy Carter in a speech Monday night, claiming that Carter was a brilliant president “by comparison.”

Trump made the slight during a victory speech in Iowa after he was declared the winner in the Iowa Caucuses. Carter’s presidency was known for high inflation, world crises, and high energy costs.

“I don’t want to be overly rough on the president, but I have to say that he is the worst president that we’ve had in the history of our country. He’s destroying our country,” Trump said of Biden.

“You know, my wife attended the funeral two months ago of Rosalynn Carter, and it was beautiful. And Jimmy Carter was there. And I thought to myself, Jimmy Carter is happy now because he will go down as being a brilliant president by comparison to Joe Biden.”

The former president said voters were waiting for the United States to return to the country it was before Biden, and he promised to secure the U.S.’s southern border. The border crisis was ranked as the No. 1 issue for Iowans.

“The people in our country are great. They are great. They only want to see one thing: They want our country to come back,” Trump said. “They’re embarrassed by what’s going on. Our country is left out all over the world. They’re laughing at us, and they want our country to come back.”

Trump is expected to travel to New Hampshire next, where the first primary will be held next week. Trump is projected to win the state, with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley polling second. Trump beat Haley and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) by a record amount in Iowa.
