Sen. Roger Marshall endorses Kari Lake in Arizona Senate race

EXCLUSIVEKari Lake received the endorsement of Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), a sign of Republicans in Washington, D.C., starting to coalesce around her as she vies for a Senate seat in Arizona.

Marshall is the fourth senator to endorse Lake, the former TV news anchor who rose to political prominence last cycle in her bid for Arizona governor. While she lost the race, the campaign launched her into the national spotlight.

“Kari Lake is a straight shooter who will work tirelessly to secure our border, protect our constitutional rights, rein in inflation, and support law and order,” Marshall said in a statement. “For these reasons and a litany of others, I am honored to endorse her candidacy for the U.S. Senate. Kari Lake will be the leader Arizona families need to keep their communities safe, secure, and prosperous. I look forward to Kari becoming Arizona’s next Senator.”

Lake has aligned herself closely with former President Donald Trump, which has helped her politically and led to her receiving his endorsement as well as that of House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

“Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Doctor Roger Marshall was an OB/GYN, where he delivered more than 5,000 babies. Senator Marshall understands, like I do, the need to help women, save babies, and empower families,” Lake said in a statement. “In the Senate, I will work with him on improving our healthcare system, championing strong agriculture policies, and defending our 2nd Amendment. I am proud to have his endorsement to be the next U.S. Senator from Arizona!”

The race is tight, with the Cook Political Report rating it a “toss-up,” and is a target for both Senate Republicans and Democrats. Currently, the top Democratic candidate is Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ). The incumbent, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), has not yet announced whether or not she is running for reelection.

While the National Republican Senatorial Committee and its chairman, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), have not endorsed in this race, in an interview with the Daily Mail, Daines called Lake “one of the most talented politicians we have running in the 2024 cycle.”

According to a source familiar with the matter, Daines and Lake have developed a relationship and frequently text about her race.
