EXCLUSIVE — Derrick Anderson, a candidate to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District and Green Beret veteran, raised $300,000 in the fourth quarter of 2023 in what is shaping up to be a competitive race for Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s (D-VA) seat.

Since entering the 2024 contest 3 1/2 months ago, Anderson has raised over $460,000, boosting him as one of the top contenders in the race, according to a campaign release provided exclusively to the Washington Examiner.

“This election will determine the future of our state and country and I need all the support I can get to win,” Anderson said in a statement. “I’m running to fight for Virginia’s 7th District by securing the border, taking on Joe Biden’s failed policies, and restoring America’s standing in the world. I deeply appreciate the support our campaign has earned so far, and I look forward to bringing more people on to Team Anderson!”

Virginia’s 7th District is one of several House seats being targeted by the Republican Party as the GOP hopes to secure a wider majority in the lower chamber of Congress. Spanberger announced in November 2023 that she would not run for reelection and instead launch a bid to replace Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA), who will step down from the position due to Virginia term limits.

Anderson is one of five Republicans running for the GOP nomination. Democrats have put forward five candidates so far as well. The Green Beret veteran launched his campaign on Sept. 18, 2023, stating he could “no longer remain silent on the sidelines.”

He has received endorsements from several national Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and many others.
