Newsom slams Congress Republicans as ‘pathetically weak’ in defense of Biden crisis

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) attacked congressional Republicans on Thursday for “perpetuating” fraud over the illegal immigration matter on the southern border.

According to Newsom, it was “shameful” that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reportedly telegraphed doubt to his GOP colleagues Wednesday on whether a border package could still successfully be tied to aid for Ukraine. “Politics on this have changed,” he allegedly told Republican senators, in reference to former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, which is expected to put the immigration matter front and center.

“Just completely rolling over and capitulating,” Newsom described it. “Don’t even get me started with the weakness of the current speaker of the House.”

“I mean, they don’t want a deal. Period. … It says everything you need to know about the fraud that they’re perpetuating on the issue of the border,” he claimed.

But during McConnell’s final meeting with lawmakers this week, he pushed back on initial reports of his statements. The minority leader is reportedly still working very hard to make a deal with both border security and Ukraine aid.

Newsom touted his credentials as “a border state governor,” claiming, “No one has to introduce me to this issue.”

Republicans following alleged orders from Trump to hold off on addressing the border are “pathetically weak,” according to him.

To Newsom, the message Republicans’ actions send is: “We care about politics exclusively at the expense of the American people. It’s all we care about is winning for winning’s sake.”

“That is shameful,” Newsom said.
