USPS continues homage to Chinese Zodiac with Dragon Stamp

The United States Postal Service will commemorate the Lunar New Year with a dragon stamp in homage to the Chinese Zodiac for this year.

Artist Camille Chew created the design by first cutting and folding a paper dragon mask and then digitally rendering the mask. Chew has designed the USPS stamp for the holiday since 2020, for the year of the rat, and will continue to do so every year through 2031. This year of the dragon begins on Feb. 10 and ends on Jan. 28 of next year.

“For more than three decades, the Postal Service has issued stamps highlighting the Lunar New Year and this subject has been some of the most successful stamp releases in the long history of the Postal Service,” USPS vice president of retail of the WESTPAC Area said Eduardo H. Ruiz, Jr. said. “The Postal Service has one of the most diverse workplaces in the United States, and its customer base is as diverse as the country itself. This stamp is a great example that reflects our nation’s rich, multicultural heritage and traditions.”

The holiday forever stamps are each 68 cents, the same as any other forever stamp, at $13.60 per sheet of 20 stamps. Additionally, the stamp is being sold as wall art, decorative pillows, shirts, canvas bags, and pins. During Chew’s initial release of her first rat design, the USPS sold a commemorative mug as well but has removed similar merchandise since.

These sales help to fund the USPS as it does not receive tax dollars toward its operating expenses.
