The View hosts suggest Republicans should be ‘a little bit afraid’ of Taylor Swift

The hosts of The View think the Republican Party ought to be “a little bit afraid” of musician Taylor Swift and the influence that she has on younger people.

The talk show hosts discussed how various Republican personalities have talked about Swift and reports that the Biden administration is seeking her endorsement in the 2024 election. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that members of the GOP are creating conspiracy theories about Swift because “you can’t win an election.” Co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed, stating the party has no platform to stand on.

“What are you doing?” Goldberg asked. “I’m going to ask that side: What are you doing for younger voters? We know why young people are upset, but what are you going to do? Y’all are making so much stink about Taylor Swift because you don’t know what to do.”

Fellow co-host Sonny Hostin said Republicans ought to be “a little bit afraid” of the singer, as Swift has over 279 million followers on Instagram. She also noted that a social media post from Swift encouraged her followers to get registered to vote, leading to 35,000 new voter registrations across various states, including Republican-controlled Texas and Florida.

Swift endorsed President Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won against incumbent Donald Trump.

Biden is tied in the polls with Trump among younger voters, a category Biden won by 20 percentage points in the 2020 election.

In the wake of Swift’s 2023 social media post urging voter registrations, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) encouraged her to engage with the Biden campaign, saying the post was “profoundly powerful.”
