Trump administration official in critical condition after being shot during DC carjacking

A former Trump administration official is in critical condition after being shot during a carjacking in Washington, D.C., on Monday night, as the city is dealing with a spike in crime rates.

Mike Gill, who worked for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during the Trump administration, was the first victim of the hourslong carjacking spree in D.C. and Maryland on Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to FOX 5. Gill was hospitalized with “life-threatening injuries,” according to the Metropolitan Police Department, who also say they are investigating the matter.

The carjacking occurred on the 900 block of K Street NW at 5:45 p.m. EST, with the suspect allegedly getting inside the parked vehicle where Gill was behind the wheel and shooting him. Police say the suspect then fled on foot and attempted a carjacking at 5th Street and K Street at 7:05 p.m. The suspect then carjacked someone on the 300 block of N Street NE, shooting 35-year-old Alberto Vasquez Jr., who later died at a hospital from his injuries.

Police say the suspect later committed two more carjackings in Prince George’s County, Maryland, before getting into a confrontation with police in New Carrollton at 4:35 a.m. EST on Tuesday. He was shot by police and died of his injuries, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s office.
