Kyrsten Sinema challengers Lake and Gallego more than triple her fundraising numbers

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) has been outfundraised by both of her major challengers should she seek reelection, Republican Kari Lake and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).

Lake has raised more than $2 million for her Senate campaign during the last three months of 2023, while Sinema pulled in just $595,000 during the same period, according to a report filed by her campaign with the Federal Election Commission late Tuesday.

Gallego pulled in the highest amount for his Senate bid at $3.3 million.

“Kyrsten remains laser focused on continuing her work making a meaningful impact in the lives of Arizonans across the state – not on campaign politics,” a spokesperson for her campaign told Politico. “She has the resources to keep delivering lasting results for Arizona.”

The Arizona senator spent $749,000 during the last three months of the year, causing her cash on hand to go down. However, she still has $11 million in her campaign chest.

One of her biggest expenses was digital advertising, which accounted for more than $141,000 of her costs. Another large portion was spent on fundraising, including travel costs, which cost $124,000 in total. Security-related costs also played a significant role, including a retainer with Kinsaker Security Group, LLC, that cost $100,000 and $77,000 spent on a security vehicle.

The report comes ahead of a filing deadline for reelection. Sinema, who left the Democratic Party in late 2022, has not announced whether she intends to run as an independent later this year. If she does, it would open a highly contested three-way race.

The filing deadline in Arizona is April 8, 2024. If Sinema does decide to run, she would need to gather 40,000 signatures in order to appear on the ballot.
