‘Clearly we’re separated’: John and Gisele Fetterman mock social media rumors over marriage

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and his wife, Gisele, mocked rumors about their marriage on Wednesday evening as they posed for a photograph at the Washington Press Club’s annual Congressional Dinner.

Fetterman, who was dressed in his typical hooded sweatshirt and shorts, albeit with a formal twist, spoke to the Washington Examiner during the reception.

“I’m here with Gisele. Clearly we’re separated,” he quipped. The Fettermans were guests of the Washington Examiner at the reception.

Their appearance at the reception comes a day after Fetterman’s wife returned to social media on Tuesday following a prolonged absence to address rumors about her disappearance.

“I posted several months ago that I would be talking a break from social media. I was bored with it … I am a Pisces … it wasn’t adding anything to my life .., but leaving social media is somehow more exhausting than having it?!” she wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.

The couple have dismissed rumors about their marital status after they gathered steam on social media. One social media post in particular falsely claiming she was “currently single” received more than 9.5 million views.

Her husband, meanwhile, earlier dismissed the rumors as “absurd.”

“She’s right upstairs in my office right now. And this is absurd. I am not even sure why that we’d even be addressing,” he told the Daily Mail. “I don’t even understand why there’s rumors because my wife clearly got tired of the online abuse from the same kind of crazies that show up at my home on Friday nights.”

He added to the outlet, “So how that now can turn into there’s an issue with our marriage is outrageous. … Like I said, she’s here in town right now and everything is wonderful.”

John Fetterman has won new admirers, as well as critics, for staunchly defending Israel in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre in Gaza. He has also been a vocal critic of fellow Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) after he was federally indicted, calling on him to resign, and he has distanced himself from the progressive wing of his party.

His wife, however, received the brunt of insults and harassment on social media about her husband’s unwavering support of Israel.

She said in an X post on Nov. 17 that she was “3 weeks into a social media break that may last another month or forever. PS. treating someone as simply someone’s spouse is insulting and minimizing. PSS. did you know male spouses don’t get treated this way? PSSS. no more cute animal pics for you.”
