Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) bashed her Senate primary opponent, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), for attempting to move past his two chief Democratic opponents in the Golden State‘s “jungle primary” next month.
Schiff released an advertisement pitting himself against Republican Steve Garvey, who has moved into second place in recent polling. Because of California’s “jungle primary,” the top two finishers in the March contest, regardless of political party, will advance to the general election. Porter claimed, in response to the video, that Schiff is trying to block her and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) out of the primary race.

“Adam Schiff knows he will lose to me in November. That’s what this brazenly cynical ad is about—furthering his own political career, boxing out qualified Democratic women candidates, and boosting a Republican candidate to do it. We need honest leadership, not political games,” she posted on X on Thursday.
Schiff’s post painted Garvey as one of the “two leading candidates” in the race, ignoring Porter and Lee. The video attempts to tie Garvey to former President Donald Trump and “far-right conservatives.” Most recent polls have shown Garvey contending for or in second place behind Schiff.
A poll released on Thursday and conducted by USC Dornsife, USC Price Center, CSU Long Beach, and Cal Poly Pomona shows Schiff leading the field with 25%, followed by Garvey and Porter both with 15% and Lee with 7%. The survey of 1,416 likely voters, with a margin of error of 2.6%, also showed 29% are undecided.

The California Senate primary, with all candidates competing for the two spots on the ballot in November, is scheduled for March 5.
On the same day as the Senate primary, California and various other states will be holding their presidential primary elections on what is commonly known as Super Tuesday.
