Tim Sheehy says Schumer-tied PAC is trying to distract voters from Tester’s record: ‘They’re going to lose to me’

Tim Sheehy, a Republican candidate running for Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-MT) seat, said Democrats spending big to campaign against him are distracting voters from the incumbent’s record and are “going to lose.”

“The Democrats in Montana know that, on the issues, Jon Tester loses across the board,” Sheehy said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Immigration, economy, energy. It’s no question Jon Tester is a rubber stamp for all of Joe Biden’s policies, and if he runs on the issues, they’re going to lose to me. And they know that.”

In recent months, the Last Best Place PAC has spent $5.7 million in broadcast and cable ads attacking Sheehy. The entity behind the multimillion-dollar TV blitz is aligned with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Sheehy, a Navy SEAL veteran, said the Democrats are trying to divert focus away from key topics that are at the forefront of voters’ minds going into the 2024 election, such as immigration and the economy. Montana has become a Republican stronghold since Tester was elected nearly two decades ago, and he’s now the only Democrat holding statewide office.

“They’re trying to make this race not about the issues. They’re trying to confuse the Montana voters and obfuscate what Tester really stands for,” Sheehy said. “If they have to talk about Jon Tester’s voting record, they lose. One million dollars a week they’re going to spend trying to attack my character, my family, my businesses because they have to distract Montana voters from Jon Tester’s record.”

According to Federal Election Commission reports, Last Best Place PAC brought in $2.1 million during the fourth quarter of 2023. The group’s funding came from Majority Forward, which is linked to Senate Majority PAC — the Senate Democrats’ main super PAC.

In response to Sheehy saying the Senate Majority PAC is attempting to distract Montana voters, the PAC bashed the GOP candidate’s “shady ties.”

“Tim Sheehy may think it’s a ‘distraction’ for Montanans to learn that he has shady ties to China, did business in the Caymans, and built his company off government contracts, but voters certainly don’t,” Senate Majority PAC spokeswoman Sarah Guggenheimer said. “And while Mitch McConnell’s prized candidate spends his time whining about Montanans learning the truth, Jon Tester continues to put hardworking families in his state first — just like he has his entire career.”
