House Democrat says there’s ‘blood on the hands’ of pro-Palestinian protesters during heated hearing – Washington Examiner

Rep. Brad Sherman (DCA) said there’s “blood on the hands” of pro-Palestinian protesters that interrupted a House Foreign Affairs hearing on Thursday.

“There’s blood on the hands of the Houthi, and there’s blood on the hands of those who prevent us from taking effective action against them and shout their praises, and I see that blood is actually on the hands of people visible to me right now,” Sherman said.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis were discussed during the hearing, and Sherman said there was blood on their hands too.

Members of the activist group Code Pink held their red-painted hands up during the hearing, wearing pink shirts that read “Let Gaza live” and “Ceasefire now.”

“We’re in the House hearing on the U.S.’s latest round of attacks on the people of Yemen. The U.S. has blood on their hands — HANDS OFF YEMEN!” Code Pink wrote on X.

Demonstrators called for a ceasefire in Gaza and to halt funding to Israel a day after the Senate passed a $95.3 billion bill with aid to Ukraine and funds for Israel and the Indo-Pacific.

Sherman and other members of Congress were testifying about the Houthis threat to global shipping and warned of a destabilization in the Middle East. The United States and its allies have led strikes in Yemen in response to the Houthi’s aggression toward shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis say they are targeting Israeli-owned ships in defense of Gaza as the Israel-Hamas war rages on.

Protesters then interrupted Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) as he was explaining, “I think we need to be more concerned in supporting the resistance in Iran, for example. Those people who would stand up against the injustices against women and children, against education, against rights be.”

A woman then scolded McCormick, saying, “Keep feminism out of your mouth, you absolute disgrace. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Ceasefire now. No more money to Israel. This isn’t complicated. You absolute disgrace of human beings.”

As the protester exited the hearing, McCormick said, “And there we go again with the absolute misunderstanding of realism versus idealism.”

In a statement explaining their demonstration, Code Pink said their goal was “to amplify the voices of the majority of Americans who oppose sending more of their tax dollars to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
