Biden’s memory problems cause more doubt than Trump’s legal woes for Michigan voters: Poll – Washington Examiner

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are on track to be their respective party’s nominees for president in November, but each has one major vulnerability that could cause voters in swing states to think twice about supporting them.

A Fox News poll released on Wednesday shows a sizable number of Michigan voters who support either Biden or Trump are likely to reconsider their support for their preferred candidate over concerns regarding Biden’s mental soundness or Trump’s legal troubles. While neither are a majority, Biden supporters are more likely than Trump supporters to reconsider their support of their candidate over his biggest vulnerability.

The survey found that 33% of those supporting Biden are likely to reconsider their support over concerns regarding his mental acuity, compared to 64% of Biden supporters who are unlikely to reconsider their support based on those concerns. When Trump supporters were asked if they would reconsider their support over concerns with his legal troubles, 22% said they would reconsider compared to 76% who said they would not.

Trump’s legal troubles have taken center stage since his first indictment last year, and with multiple trials in his four criminal indictments expected throughout the campaign season, he will be traversing the courtroom and the campaign trail.

Concerns regarding Biden’s mental acuity have been present for much of his presidency after several notable gaffes and mental mistakes, but have reached a new high after special counsel Robert Hur’s report detailed his “poor memory” last week.

While Biden supporters in Michigan appear more wary of the president’s biggest weakness than Trump supporters do about the former president’s, Biden also trails Trump in the key swing state.

The poll found Trump leads Biden 47%-45% in a head-to-head matchup, continuing a trend of the former president leading his successor in several key swing states. The survey polled 1,106 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

Biden won Michigan in 2020 over Trump, four years after Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate since 1988 to win the state.
