Fani Willis won’t take the stand again – Washington Examiner

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has concluded her testimony about an effort by former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants to have her removed as the lead prosecutor of the case over alleged misconduct, according to a lawyer from her office on Friday.

Willis was expected to be cross-examined by district attorney lawyer Anna Cross, but Cross said at the start of Friday’s hearing that the state did not have any additional questions for Willis.

Attorneys for the state and the defendants charged in the case are debating what will happen next in the hearing.

The defense is planning later on Friday to call its next witness, Terrence Bradley, who is special prosecutor Nathan Wade’s former law partner and onetime friend. But Bradley’s attorney told the judge that Bradley was not at the courthouse at the start of the hearing because he had a doctor’s appointment. He is expected to testify later Friday morning.

In a court filing last week, Trump co-defendant Mike Roman’s lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, said Bradley can testify that Willis and Wade began their “improper” relationship before she appointed him to prosecute Trump and 18 other defendants.

“Willis and Wade claim they did not have a personal, romantic relationship before Willis appointed Wade as a special prosecutor, but Terrence Bradley (‘Bradley’) will refute that claim,” Merchant wrote, adding that Bradley will be able to testify that their relationship began before Willis was sworn in as district attorney in January 2021.

“Thus, Bradley can confirm that Willis contracted with Wade after Wade and Willis began a romantic relationship, thus rebutting Wade’s claim in his affidavit that they did not start dating until 2022,” Merchant wrote.
