Donald Trump says Haley is getting ‘clobbered’ by Biden in polls. That’s not true – Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump slammed former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, his top Republican presidential primary rival, for lackluster poll numbers against President Joe Biden in a social media post Saturday morning.

But Trump’s allegations don’t match up with what the polling actually says.

“Nikki Haley is getting absolutely CLOBBERED by Crooked Joe Biden in the Polls,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I am beating him by a lot, as much as 20 points. Going to Philadelphia, and then to Michigan, today. Will be in the Great State of South Carolina all of next week. MAGA2024”

Yet several polls that conducted a hypothetical matchup between Trump and Biden show the former president leading anywhere between 1% to 5%.

In the latest Emerson College poll released Friday, voters preferred Trump over Biden, 45% to 44%, with 11% undecided. Trump’s lead was well within the poll’s margin of error,r plus or minus 2.7 percentage points, making the two candidates virtually tied.

A Monmouth University poll released Thursday showed 44% of participants said they would definitely (30%) or probably (14%) vote for Biden. In a separate question, 46%, said they would definitely (30%) or probably (16%) vote for Trump.

A Quinnipiac University poll released on Jan. 31 showed Biden defeating Trump, 50% to 44%, a statistic that is outside the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

It is unclear exactly what poll Trump is referring to that shows him leading Biden by 20%. But a Washington Post-ABC News poll from September showed Trump leading Biden by 20 points among voters under age 35. Critics, however, cast doubt on the validity of the poll.

Haley has long trumpeted a December Wall Street Journal poll that showed her beating Biden by 17 points on the campaign trail.

That poll remains a top highlight. On average, Haley bests Biden by 3.6% in polls, according to RealClearPolitics.

The Jan. 31 Quinnipiac poll showed Haley beating Biden by just 5 points, 47% to 42%. A Feb. 1 CNN poll conducted by SSRS Opinion Panel showed Haley receiving 52% compared to Biden at 39%, a 13-point lead over Biden.
