California senator slams Nikki Haley for ‘dog whistle’ attacks against Kamala Harris – Washington Examiner

Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-CA) suggested that 2024 hopeful Nikki Haley is using “dog whistle” scare tactics against Vice President Kamala Harris.

While appearing on Inside with Jen Psaki for an interview, with a clip being first shared on X, Butler was asked about Haley’s campaign strategy to suggest that a vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Kamala Harris.

“America has demonstrated that they are ready, willing & able to support candidates who are experienced, who are qualified, & who have the interest of the American people at heart. And that has been VP Harris at every turn.”@Senlaphonza reacts to Nikki Haley’s attack on Harris pic.twitter.com/UED6oJ3YIS

“I think that Ambassador Haley is unfortunately perpetuating the dog whistles of divisive politics and frankly should be called on it,” Butler said. “America has demonstrated that they are ready, willing, and able to support candidates who are experienced, who are qualified, and who have the interest of the American people at heart, and that has been Vice President Harris at every term.”

The California senator previously praised Harris for paving the way for her as a black woman in Congress. Butler is the third black woman to serve in the Senate, as Harris was the second, and Carol Moseley Braun was the first.

“She’s trying to scare people into, into believing that what is in front of them is not a woman who has served in public office for more than two decades,” Butler said. “That they are not seeing a capable U.S. senator who served on the Judiciary Committee, but instead want them to see something else. And I think it will be important to ask Ambassador Haley what is it that she wants the American people to see aside from what the vice president has demonstrated.”

Haley’s campaign did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

Haley and former President Donald Trump are the final two Republican candidates left in the 2024 presidential election. Trump has since earned the endorsement of most of the former GOP candidates, including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). Haley lost in the caucuses held in Iowa and Nevada, along with the nation’s first primary in New Hampshire.
