Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, launched an investigation into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology over reports of antisemitism on campus.
The committee announced Friday morning it is launching an investigation into MIT, sending a letter to President Sally Kornbluth and corporation Chairman Mark Gorenberg saying the House will be investigating the school’s “response to antisemitism and its failure to protect Jewish students.”
The letter comes one day after two Jewish students filed a lawsuit against MIT for allegedly allowing antisemitism to go unpunished on campus.
“We have grave concerns regarding the inadequacy of MIT’s response to antisemitism on its campus,” Foxx wrote in the letter, which asks the school to provide documents related to MIT’s response to incidents on campus, any disciplinary actions that arose from those incidents, and information on foreign donations and Jewish student enrollment.
The school has until March 22 to respond. Sarah McDonnell, MIT media relations deputy director, confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the school has received the letter and is reviewing it.
“MIT is committed to providing a response to the Committee’s questions,” she said, stating the school has no further comment.
Foxx also wrote in the letter about Kornbluth’s December testimony before the House, during which she and now-former presidents of Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania “fail[ed] to state unequivocally that calling for the genocide of Jews” would violate the codes of conduct at their respective schools.
Harvard’s Claudine Gay and University of Pennsylvania’s Elizabeth Magill have since resigned, leaving Kornbluth the last remaining president who spoke at the hearing still at her post.

The House committee has launched investigations into other schools, including Harvard, which it recently subpoenaed while claiming Harvard has not complied with document requests. Earlier this week, Foxx said Harvard failed to comply with the subpoena.
“I don’t know if it’s arrogance, ineptness, or indifference that’s guiding Harvard. Regardless, its actions to date are shameful,” Foxx said in a Tuesday press release. “Harvard has absolutely failed to comply in good faith with the Committee’s subpoena for information about antisemitism on its campus.”
