April’s monthly Supplemental Security Income payment, worth up to $943 for individual filers, will go out to millions of beneficiaries in just under three weeks.

The next installment will go out in 20 days, on Monday, April 1, to people who struggle with a serious debilitating disability that results in a limited income, according to the Social Security Administration. March’s payment already went out on March 1.

To qualify for the SSI payments, a person needs to be at least partially blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or may be expected to result in death.”

People who live with people who receive SSI payments to provide them with necessary care can also qualify for a smaller monthly disbursement.

The maximum amount each filer can get depends on the category they applied for the payment under. There are three categories for beneficiaries to choose from: individual, joint, or as an essential person.

Individual filers can receive up to $943 each month, people who filed as a couple can receive up to $1,415 a month, and essential persons get up to $472 each month, according to the SSA. These amounts are an increase of 3.2% from 2023 due to inflation.

The payments are given in addition to regular Social Security benefits for those who qualify for both, but not every recipient will receive the maximum amount.
