Taco Bell closing indoor dining at Oakland locations due to crime – Washington Examiner

Taco Bell locations in Oakland, California, are closing their dining indoors, opting to only serve customers via their drive-thrus due to crime.

Out of the five locations based in this city, which is dealing with rising crime, all but one of them have shuttered their indoor dining. These locations are also not accepting cash from customers either.

“Providing a safe environment for team members and customers is the priority at Taco Bell restaurants,” a statement from Taco Bell read. “The franchise owner and operator has informed us that they are consistently evaluating and working to ensure a safe environment by implementing procedures, such as closing dining rooms, and hiring security guards, and they have taken extra measures to meet with local law enforcement.”

Customers who walk to the drive-thru window instead of driving their car are also being turned down service, according to a local outlet.

City Councilman Dan Kalb has stated that he believes these locations are facing a combination of high crime levels and being close to a freeway, providing criminals with a quick getaway. He has argued that this is why he has called for cameras to be installed on freeway ramps.

Taco Bell is the latest fast food chain to close its indoor dining to customers. Last year, Raising Cane’s also opted to close its indoor dining due to crime. Similarly, West Coast burger chain In-N-Out chose to close its lone Oakland location at the start of this year.
