Denver and Boulder, Colorado, are facing their worst storm in three years (to the date) Thursday as residents prepare for upwards of a foot of fresh snow, according to multiple reports.
A Winter Storm Warning was issued for Wednesday through Friday across the Denver metro area and Boulder with local weather teams from 9NEWS projecting 10 to 20 inches of snow within the city limits and 24 inches in the suburbs. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston reportedly declared a Tier 4 response to the situation, the highest possible level. The last major storm in the region also hit on March 14 in 2021, which brought two feet of snow to Denver, according to the New York Post.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued avalanche warnings for the northern portion of the state near Steamboat Springs. Extreme impacts are expected across such a large area that NWS wrote in all capital letters “TRAVEL IS NOT ADVISED” particularly in Front Range mountains and foothills.

Hundreds of businesses, schools and government offices will be closed until at least Thursday, as snowfall is expected to last from the early hours of Wednesday until calming down at some point on Friday, 9NEWs reported. Some 800 flights were also cancelled out of Denver International Airport, with airlines issuing travel advisories, according to FlightAware.
Colorado State Patrol told anyone with a morning commute to be highly aware of the situation, particularly as snow accumulates and to plan ahead to stay safe and stay warm.
