Bobbleheads of Penguins hockey legend stolen ahead of tribute – Washington Examiner

The Pittsburgh Penguins‘ latest honoring of hockey legend Jaromir Jagr had to be postponed Thursday after the organization announced a large shipment of Jagr bobbleheads was stolen after arriving in California.

The bobbleheads were set to be distributed to fans at Thursday’s game against the San Jose Sharks in Pittsburgh but will now be distributed at a later date, according to a statement from the Penguins.

“The Penguins learned that they were victims of cargo theft after failing to receive the shipment as scheduled,” the statement read. “The team worked with the manufacturer and transportation companies to alert the appropriate state and federal authorities who are currently working to locate the cargo.”

The Penguins announced today that the shipment carrying the Jagr bobbleheads for tonight’s game has been stolen en route to Pittsburgh.

As a result, the bobbleheads will not be distributed at tonight’s game, but will be distributed at a later date.

An investigation into the theft remains open, and the organization said it would not offer further comment in an attempt to not stymie recovery efforts.

“We were shocked to be a victim of cargo theft, and we are working closely with local and federal authorities on the investigation,” Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin said.

“While this unfortunate incident adds to the legend of Jaromir Jagr, who will be in attendance as our guest at tonight’s game, we look forward to resolving this theft and delivering the prized Jagr bobbleheads to their rightful homes, with our fans.”

Fans who would have received a bobblehead Thursday at PPG Paints Arena will be gifted a voucher with a barcode they can use to retrieve one at a later date.

Jagr played for the Penguins from 1990 to 2001 and achieved much within the organization, including two Stanley Cup championships, five Art Ross Trophies as the NHL’s top point scorer, and the 1999 Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.

Outside the NHL, Jagr has won an Olympic gold medal and two World Championships while representing the Czech Republic, and, at 52 years old, he still plays for Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Extraliga.
