Pence won’t endorse Trump because presumptive GOP nominee is ‘walking away’ from conservative policies – Washington Examiner

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that he would not endorse former President Donald Trump, because the presumptive Republican nominee is “walking away” from traditional conservative policies.

Pence noted that he was proud of his accomplishments as Trump’s vice president and the successes of their administration, but he claimed he could not support his old boss in November.

“It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Pence told Fox News. “During my presidential campaign, I made it clear there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues, and not just our differences on our constitutional duties that I exercised on Jan. 6. Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years.”

Pence said some of the topics he separated from Trump on were his stance on the national debt, his recent reversal of a federal TikTok ban, and his refusal to make a strong stance on abortion.

The former vice president’s decision not to endorse Trump makes him the most prominent Republican to do so. It comes after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who has long been a critic of Trump, recently endorsed him for president.

Pence has not stated who he will end up voting for in November, but he assured voters that it would not be President Joe Biden. He could decide to vote for a third party or No Labels’s bipartisan presidential ticket instead.

“I’m gonna keep my vote to myself,” Pence said. “I would never vote for Joe Biden.”

No Labels has vowed to run one candidate from each party on its ticket to give voters an alternative to Trump and Biden in November, now that both candidates have clinched their parties’ nominations.
