New transcript describes Trump’s chilling response to chaos that unfolded on Jan. 6 – Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump reportedly had little reaction to the reported violence in the Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, according to testimony from one of the former president’s valets.

The transcript of testimony given to the now-dissolved House Jan. 6 committee in 2022, obtained by the New York Times, was from an unnamed White House valet who was with Trump on that day. In the transcript, the valet stated Trump was told a civilian had been shot at the door of the House chamber via a notecard and did not show any reaction.

“I just remember seeing it in front of him. I don’t remember how it got there or whatever. But there was no, like, reaction. I mean, I couldn’t tell you how long that’s been sitting in front of him. But I do remember seeing that in front of him,” the aide said in the transcript, when asked if Trump showed any reaction to the notecard.

The valet also recalled a phone call on Jan. 6 between Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, where Trump pressured him not to verify the 2020 election results.

“Mike, this is a political career killer if you do this,” Trump told Pence, according to the valet.

The testimony did not corroborate claims by some others who testified before the committee, like claims that Trump said crude things about Pence after he declined to reject the results of the 2020 election on Jan. 6.

The testimony was reported by the New York Times as House Republicans are leading an investigation into the Democrat-led committee that investigated the Capitol riot during the last Congress.

The committee investigating the prior committee released a report last week that undercut claims from former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson made before the now-disbanded committee in June 2022.

Hutchinson had alleged Trump wanted to go to the Capitol after speaking at the Ellipse and had lunged for the wheel of the presidential SUV when he was told they would be returning to the White House. Trump and his allies have denied the incident.

The report from the committee last week said that “none of the White House Employees corroborated Hutchinson’s sensational story about President Trump lunging for the steering wheel of the Beast.”

The committee’s report did describe Trump’s mood after the speech as “irate,” based on the testimony of former White House employees.
