Sarah Huckabee Sanders says illegal immigrants know they can walk into the US under Biden’s leadership – Washington Examiner

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR) said illegal immigrants are crossing into the United States en masse because they know they can “walk right in” under the leadership of President Joe Biden.

The Arkansas governor stated that Biden has not been aggressive on several topics while president, including negotiating with Mexico on how to deal with illegal immigration. Huckabee Sanders was asked why people from across the globe, including China and the Middle East, are making their way to the southern border, to which she explained that the Biden administration has neglected border security.

“Because they know that they can walk right in. Because the federal government has not done one of their most important and basic duties in securing our country,” Huckabee Sanders said on Fox News’s Hannity. “Thankfully, we have governors across the country that are stepping up in doing what the federal government has failed to do under this president.”

Huckabee Sanders was referring to many Republican governors who have sent members of their state National Guard to assist Texas in securing the southern border, with Arkansas’s National Guard recently being sent to the Lone Star State. Huckabee Sanders also stressed how the lack of border security is affecting not just border states but all states.

The governor authorized the Arkansas National Guard to send around 40 Guardsmen to Texas to secure the border, and they would assist in these measures from April 1 through May 30. She sent 80 Guardsmen to the border in July 2023.

A total of 14 states have sent their National Guard members to the southern border since 2021. Last month, Govs. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Kristi Noem (R-SD) deployed their National Guard members to help with border security.

Data from Customs and Border Protection, released on Friday, revealed 256,094 noncitizens were encountered attempting to enter the U.S. last month, up from 242,521 in January though down from 370,899 noncitizens in December.
