Wes Moore dismisses claims DEI was to blame for Baltimore bridge collapse: ‘No time for foolishness’ – Washington Examiner

Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) will not comment on false claims that diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives were at fault in the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse in Baltimore last week.

On CNN’s State of the Union with Dana Bash, Wes Moore said he has more important things to focus on in the wake of the bridge collapse than clear up rumors that the collapse was based on policies that encourage workplace diversity. When asked what his response was to Republicans who have claimed the bridge collapse was based on DEI, he said, “My response is I have no time for foolishness.”

“I have no time for foolishness. I’m locked in,” Moore said.

He listed his priorities for Maryland as governor following the Key Bridge collapse.

“I’m making sure that we can get closure and comfort for these families. I’m making sure that we’re going to keep our first responders safe, who are doing heroic work,” Moore said. “I’m making sure that we are going to open up this channel and be able to get boats and ships and get our economic engine going again. I’m making sure that we’re taking care of our people, to include our first responders and families and small businesses who have been impacted by this. I’m making sure that we are going to get the Key Bridge rebuilt.”

“I have no time for foolishness, so I’m not going to delve into it,” Moore continued.

When asked to comment on Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s defense of the DEI claims, Moore again said he does not have time to engage in “foolishness.”

“I frankly do not have time to be able to be dealing with anything else. I’m locked in, and I’m focused on what matters right now,” Moore said.

Mayor Scott, in response to being called a “DEI Mayor” in what many have said is a racist remark in nature, said the phrase was a workaround way to say the N-word.

“We know what these folks really want to say when they say DEI mayor,” Scott told the Baltimore Banner. “Whether it is DEI or clown. They really want to say the N-word. But there is nothing they can do and say to me that is worse than the treatment of my ancestors. I am proud of who I am and where I come from.”

A Republican congressional candidate in Florida posted a video on X of the bridge collapse with the caption, “DEI did this.”
