MTG amps up attacks against Speaker Johnson: ‘Doing the Deep State’s dirty work’ – Washington Examiner

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reiterated her calls for House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) ousting just days after he had praised her as his “friend.” The congresswoman from Georgia amped up her attacks against Johnson on Tuesday night, claiming during an interview with Steve Bannon that Johnson is “doing the Deep State’s dirty work.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Greene shared an article from the Federalist that drew parallels between Johnson’s and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) stances on Ukraine. Greene cited the article as further evidence of why Johnson should be removed.

“Mike Johnson’s ‘Ukraine First’ Agenda Shows He’s No Different Than Mitch McConnell’ And Mitch McConnell has a 6% approval rating among Republicans,” Greene said. “Again, we need a new Speaker of the House.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Johnson for comment.

Greene filed a motion last month to vacate Johnson from the speakership, but since it was not a privileged motion, the action was more of a threat than anything else. Johnson later stated that he had exchanged texts with Greene over the weekend and presented their relationship as cordial, even calling her a “friend” and expressing sympathy with her perspective.

Mike Johnson is not working for Republicans, he’s not helping Republicans, he’s not even listening to Republicans.

Mike Johnson is doing the Deep State’s dirty work.

“The Democrats know when we don’t all stand together with our razor-thin majority, then they have a better negotiation position. And that’s why we got some of the things we didn’t like,” he said of the spending deal on Sunday. “Now we fought like warrior poets to keep some of the Senate earmarks out of the bill, and we were successful in getting a lot of the terrible stuff out, but a few of them made it through, and that’s what Marjorie’s upset about, and I am too.”

On Monday, Greene told the Washington Examiner that she had exchanged Easter wishes with the House speaker over the weekend, but that was the extent of it. She expressed frustration with Johnson’s stance on Ukraine aid.

“It’s the most outrageous — that is the biggest lie,” Greene said of one of Johnson’s proposals to give Ukraine aid as a loan. “And the only people who believe that lie are in Washington, D.C., because the American people know it’s a lie. The American people know that Ukraine is not going to pay us back any money.”
