Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) stated that whoever former President Donald Trump picks for his vice president will be based on the topics that voters face every day.
Trump, the presumptive presidential nominee of the Republican Party, has yet to announce who he will pick to join his 2024 ticket, though he has suggested in interviews that he will be making a decision “closer to Wisconsin time,” referring to the Republican National Convention Milwaukee this July. Scott is among the candidates Trump is rumored to be considering for his vice presidential bid, and was asked about what he could bring to the table as if chosen for the role.
“Well, I don’t think it’s about the who, it’s about the what,” Scott said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “It’s about the issues that the American people face. I gotta say without any question, if we’re going to talk about who, it’s Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris, the border czar, has allowed the greatest invasion in American history. Kamala Harris, working on the economy, with the pandering tour of Joe Biden, seeing the devastation across this nation. Kamala Harris working with Joe Biden on issues of the Middle East, literally standing in opposition to our strongest ally, Israel.”
The senator then stated that talking to voters about the American dream is important for the sake of the nation, as it tells voters that starting a business is entirely possible. He then added that if he were Trump’s vice presidential candidate, he would talk about giving Trump four more years in office “not for the vice president, but for the American people.”
During his interview, Scott also criticized how much inflation has affected voters under Biden’s leadership, stating that people in his home state are paying over $25,000 “for the same things they could buy under President Trump.”
Besides Scott, other people Trump is rumored to be considering for his vice presidential candidate include Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and former Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard. One candidate whom Trump has confirmed is not on his short list is former United Nations ambassador and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
With less than six months before the presidential election on Nov. 5, Vice President Kamala Harrris has accepted an invitation from CBS News to debate Trump’s vice presidential candidate. Like the presidential debates, this debate would be broadcast in studio without a live audience, on either July 23 or Aug. 13, according to the Biden campaign.

Meanwhile, Biden and Trump have agreed to debate each other in a CNN debate scheduled for June 27, with a second one scheduled to take place on ABC on Sept. 10.
Recent polling data has indicated that younger voters between ages 18-30 trust Trump slightly more than Biden on reducing prices and securing the southern border. Half of these voters said that lowering prices is their biggest concern on finances, compared to the 26% who want higher wages and the 15% who said they want more jobs.
