Trio of Hunter Biden’s exes to be called in felony gun case: Prosecutors – Washington Examiner

Special counsel David Weiss is planning to feature highly personal testimony about Hunter Biden‘s drug addiction during his trial on felony gun charges, seeking the testimony of three past romantic partners — including the first son’s ex-wife.

The expected prosecution witnesses in Biden’s trial include his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle; Lunden Roberts, an Arkansas woman with whom he had a daughter; and Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie Biden, whom he also dated.

Alexander Smirnov, a former FBI informant charged with lying about a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden’s family, will appear in a California federal court on Monday, Feb. 26, as a judge considers whether he must remain behind bars while he awaits trial. Special counsel David Weiss’ office is pressing Judge Otis Wright II to keep Smirnov in jail, arguing the man who claims to have ties to Russian intelligence is likely to flee the country. Prosecutors say one witness, who is believed to be Hallie Biden, will testify that President Joe Biden‘s son was in possession of a revolver in 2018 and that she took it from his car and placed it into a dumpster near a grocery store in Wilmington, Delaware.

Roberts’s testimony is also expected to be used to divulge Hunter Biden’s chronic crack cocaine use around the time of his possession of the gun. Prosecutors say she “observed the defendant using crack cocaine frequently — every 20 minutes except when he slept,” according to a court filing that does not name her specifically.

“The government intends to show videos and photographs of the defendant smoking crack, or of crack or drug paraphernalia in videos/photographs backed up to the defendant’s Apple iCloud account or laptop, or sent in the defendant’s messages,” prosecutors wrote.

Other witnesses whom Weiss plans to call include the gun store employee who allegedly sold the first son the revolver in 2018. Also introduced into evidence for the case is a 75-page list of text messages between Hunter Biden and friends and close family members at the time when he was struggling with drug addiction and in possession of the firearm.

The trial is expected to begin on June 3, and a three-judge panel has already rejected Hunter Biden’s request to overturn the trial judge’s rejection of several motions to dismiss the case.

On Monday, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, asked the full bench on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit to reconsider the previous appeal concerning the motions to dismiss, a sign that the first son is seeking to delay the forthcoming trial at every juncture.

Hunter Biden was indicted in September 2023 on federal charges alleging that he had a gun when he was using drugs and that he submitted a form falsely stating he was not using illegal drugs when he purchased the handgun. He pleaded not guilty in October.

The first son also faces a separate federal tax case in California, and a trial is set to begin there on June 20. He has also pleaded not guilty to those charges.
