Giuliani agrees to drop accusations about Georgia poll workers after massive $148 million defamation loss – Washington Examiner

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani agreed to cease his attacks against a pair of Georgia election workers in light of a $148 million defamation judgment against him.

Court documents revealed Giuliani agreed to stop accusations against Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss after hammering the two, saying they had stolen the election with USB drives they passed around “like vials of heroin or cocaine.”

Those comments, which some called racist against the black mother-daughter pair, came before each was exonerated of guilt by Georgia election authorities in June 2023. The pair was also a popular target for former President Donald Trump in his messaging campaign about alleged fraud during the 2020 election.

The pair said the accusations changed their lives, forcing Freeman to move out of her home due to threats.

“There is nowhere I feel safe. Nowhere,” Freeman said in June 2022. “I have lost my name and I have lost my reputation. … All because a group of people starting with number 45 and his ally Rudy Giuliani decided to scapegoat me and my daughter.”

The pair said this month that Giuliani continued to defame them in an April livestream, in which he said he had evidence the pair counted ballots twice.

The former New York City mayor filed for bankruptcy after the massive judgment, which he could not pay, and wanted to appeal the verdict. A judge said he could only do so if he used preapproved donors to pay his legal fees.

In this week’s agreement, Giuliani also agreed to let the court enforce the judgment and injunction in the future.

“Today ends his efforts to profit off of lies about these two heroes of American democracy,” Michael J. Gottlieb, an attorney for Freeman and Moss, said in a statement.

Arizona officials recently served Giuliani an indictment at his 80th birthday party, to partygoers’ chagrin.
