The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford argued that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are facing major challenges in winning the 2024 presidential election, as both have their own issues in convincing voters to support them.
Biden, 81, is seeking reelection this November, making him the oldest president to ever run for reelection. Bedford, an investigative editor for the Washington Examiner, argued that Biden’s age affects how voters view his handling of the various tasks the president faces, including border security and the economy.
“So I think that is an issue for Joe Biden, and also it’s an issue that Joe Biden can’t fix,” Bedford said on Fox News at Night. “It’s pretty clear that voters have made up their mind on this. No matter how many convictions Trump faces, how much money Joe Biden spends, this is an unfixable problem for Joe Biden.”
For Trump, Bedford contended that it is “too soon” to see how his recent guilty verdict will impact his bid in reclaiming the White House, given that the election is still five months away. However, she argued that it currently has reaffirmed the views most voters previously had on Trump, who are either even more excited to vote for him or are reassured that he should not be president again.
“I think a very small segment of the electorate who might change their mind; we just don’t know how powerful this is going to be when the election is still five months after the conviction,” Bedford said.
Trump, the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party, has received a massive spike in financial donations in the wake of his verdict, with the Trump campaign announcing Monday that it raised $141 million alongside the Republican National Committee last month. Biden himself has sought to fundraise off the verdict of Trump, posting on X a link for where people can donate to his campaign.

A recent poll conducted among 2,089 voters under the age of 40 from May 10 through May 22, stated that only a third of these voters said they would support Biden in the election. The president previously gained most of the younger vote when he ran for president in 2020.
Biden and Trump are scheduled to debate each other on June 27, with CNN hosting the debate. On Friday, X owner Elon Musk appeared to confirm a report that he will host a live town hall on his platform, which would feature Trump and Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr.
