Virginia puts itself on the electoral map as Trump cuts into Biden’s edge: Poll – Washington Examiner

A new poll shows President Joe Biden may be in trouble holding onto the blue-leaning state of Virginia

A Fox News poll of Virginia voters found that in a two-way match between Biden and former President Donald Trump, each garners 48% of the vote. Biden won Virginia by 10 points in 2020.

Trump’s support mainly comes from white evangelical Christians at 80%, rural voters at 63%, and voters without a college degree at 56%.

Independents favored Biden 45% to Trump’s 43%.

When polled with third-party candidates, Biden led Trump 42%-41%. Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garnered 9%, pulling more from Trump voters than Biden. However, Biden lost more overall because of the 2% garnered by both unaffiliate Cornel West and the Green Party’s Jill Stein. As of now, no third-party candidates are on the ballot in Virginia.

When asked if Trump’s felony conviction would influence their vote, 66% of those polled said it would not matter and 33% said it would matter. Those who said the conviction matters favored Biden by 41 points, while those who said it did not matter favored Trump by a smaller 21-point margin. Over half of those polled said the trial was fair.

The poll comes as the Trump campaign has been eyeing Virginia, the once swing state, as an opportunity for a red flip. The last time a Republican won the presidency in Virginia was former President George W. Bush in 2004.

“Joe Biden is so weak, and Democrats are in such disarray, that not only is President Trump dominating in every traditional battleground state, but longtime blue states such as Minnesota, Virginia, and New Jersey are now in play,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said

In 2016, Trump lost Virginia by more than 212,000 votes. In 2020, he lost by a greater margin of 451,000 votes. Virginia is a must-win state for Biden in what is expected to be a close presidential race.

Last month, the Biden campaign opened its first office in Northern Virginia.
