DeSantis accepts Stanley Cup bet against Alberta premier as Panthers battle Oilers – Washington Examiner

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) announced Monday that he has accepted the terms of a Stanley Cup bet issued by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith as the Florida Panthers battle the Edmonton Oilers for hockey’s greatest prize.

Smith made the challenge to DeSantis Saturday in a post to X.

“Dear Governor @RonDeSantis, This is for all the marbles…The Stanley Cup!” Smith posted.

Dear Governor @RonDeSantis,

This is for all the marbles…
The Stanley Cup! 🥅 🏒

Our Edmonton Oilers are going to beat the Florida Panthers and when we do, would you send some of your finest Florida rum to Alberta for us to celebrate with?

“Our Edmonton Oilers are going to beat the Florida Panthers and when we do, would you send some of your finest Florida rum to Alberta for us to celebrate with? If by some miracle the Panthers win the series, then I will send some fine Alberta-made whiskey down to Florida,” she added.

DeSantis appeared confident in his reply.

“With this Stanley Cup, I just want to let everybody know, I actually have a bet with the premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith,” DeSantis said at an event for raising teacher pay. “So, if the Oilers win, then I’ve got to send Florida rum up to Alberta.”

“But if the Panthers win, then she’s gotta send some nice Canadian whiskey down to Florida,” he added. “I also said, you know what, I feel good about how the Cup is gonna proceed. So, if somehow the Oilers win, not only send the rum, I’ll also throw in a key lime pie to boot.”

The Panthers and Oilers face each other in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Monday night in Sunrise, Florida, with the Panthers leading the series 1-0.
