There appear to be multiple victims, police said. No updates on the status of the victims were provided at the time.
City police said earlier that they were responding to “preliminary reports” of an active shooter on the university campus near Beam Hall. A campus alert said university police were responding to a “confirmed active shooter” in Beam Hall at 11:54 a.m. PT. At 12:26 p.m., university officials said police were responding to additional reports that shots were fired in the student union, which is near Beam Hall.
People were asked to avoid the area, as there is ongoing police activity from Maryland Parkway at University Ave to Tropicana Ave.
A KSNV News 3 Las Vegas reporter said on X that he was locked down at the university campus.
I’m currently locked down inside a UNLV campus building. Everyone nearby was told to lock down inside here. Police update just pushed out a “confirmed active shooter” alert https://t.co/hyFv1XCNws
