After Trump’s Appeal for Thousands of Ukrainian Troops Surrounded in Collapsing Kursk Pocket, Russia’s Putin Guarantees the Lives and Dignity to Those Who Surrender
Between secret meetings and very public social media postings, the Peace Process between the US and Russia, involving the end of the war in Ukraine, continues with big momentum.
Today, in a surprising move, President Donald J. Trump posted in Truth Social a commentary on the negotiations with Vladimir Putin and included an appeal for the lives of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers presently surrounded in the crumbling pocket in the Russian Kursk region.
“We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end — BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!”
Previously, Putin had warned that these remaining soldiers would be treated like terrorists, which is a much lower bar than the Geneva Convention guarantees for lawful combatants.
But after Trump strongly requested – via his envoy Steve Witkoff – that the lives of the Ukrainian troops be spared, Putin changed his mind.

Slavyangrad reported the words of Dmitry Medvedev: “Now, at a meeting of permanent members of the Russian Security Council, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief said: ‘If they lay down their arms, the Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region will be guaranteed life and decent treatment’.
This is a very humane approach by our country, but its flip side for the Ukrainian Nazis means that if they refuse to lay down their arms, they will all be consistently and ruthlessly annihilated.”
Unconfirmed video of Russian soldier claims that an order has been issued not to attack Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers during their withdrawal from the Kursk region.
