Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) labeled liberal “Squad” members as the “Hamas Caucus” after they called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Israel and Gaza.
“The Palestinian Lives and Israel genocide narrative is the new Black Lives Matter. And the Hamas Caucus is starting it now. They have voted every time for funding war in Ukraine but now are calling for peace in Gaza but make no mistake they are Pro Hamas and against Israel,” Greene posted on X, formerly Twitter. Greene’s comment was quoting a bill dubbed the “Ceasefire Now Resolution. ”

Greene’s response includes an image of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) edited in front of the Palestinian flag with the words “Hamas Caucus” at the top.

Liberal leaders on Monday introduced a congressional resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza as the war between Israel and Hamas escalates following 11 days of devastating attacks. Proposed by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the measure garnered more than a dozen signatures from Democratic lawmakers. Bush, Omar, and Ocasio-Cortez were among the supporters.
There is overwhelming support for Israel in Congress from both parties, with leaders working quickly to deliver additional assistance. The Biden administration is considering a $100 billion emergency legislation that would include aid for both Ukraine and Israel.
A small group of liberal leaders rallied behind the Palestinian cause — putting pressure on the Israeli government to recognize Palestinians’ rights and calling for an end to the Israeli bombing of Gaza.
Members of the Squad are facing backlash from their own party for not falling in line with the unwavering commitment to Israel. Republicans, including Greene, are accusing the liberal members of supporting Hamas’s attacks. The members have insisted their support is for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, not for Hamas.
Greene has been a vocal supporter of taking extreme measures toward “Hamas supporters,” calling for the deportation of millions. Greene has also made claims without any solid evidence that Palestinian militants were using guns supplied by Ukraine or Afghanistan.

Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that rules the Gaza Strip, launched attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare war. Israel subsequently fired its heaviest airstrikes against Gaza, with the Israeli military warning civilians in Gaza to leave their residential areas.
