AOC says she’s not McCarthy’s mother amid speakership fallout: ‘My job is not to put pool noodles around hard corners’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) slammed those criticizing the ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), saying he “made risky decisions and faced the natural consequences.”
The “Squad” member took to social media Wednesday evening, doubling down on her decision to vote to remove McCarthy.
THE RACE IS ON: WHO COULD REPLACE MCCARTHY AS SPEAKER?
“Contrary to how McCarthy’s defenders are behaving, men failing up is not a Constitutionally protected right,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
She went on to indicate that the former speaker paved the path to his own demise and it was not her job to protect him.
“I am not his mom, and my job is not to put pool noodles around hard corners for Republicans,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

In a historic afternoon on Tuesday, the House voted 216-210 to oust McCarthy from the speakership, marking the first time the House has voted to remove the current House speaker.
The motion to vacate was brought by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Monday, with a motion to table the attempt to oust McCarthy failing shortly before the vote. The ouster of McCarthy means the House will not be able to function until a new speaker has been elected.
