Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) hit back at Elon Musk after he described her as “not that smart.”

The pair exchanged blows after Ocasio-Cortez attacked Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-KY) on the social media platform, stating, “Boy math is needing 15 attempts to count the votes correctly to become Speaker and then shutting down the government 9 months later.”

Conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair fired the initial shot at the congresswoman, poking fun at a recent comment she made claiming that the number of immigrants in New York City is “nothing” compared to the people who immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island.

“When it comes to people coming to New York City today, are nothing, I’m telling you, nothing, compared to the daily amounts of people that we saw coming in through Ellis Island in the first half of this century,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Instagram.

St. Clair responded, “Girl math is saying immigrants coming legally through Ellis Island is the same as 3 million undocumented migrants pouring through our border and costing NYC $1,000,000,000 to house migrants for free in hotels.”

Musk replied to St. Clair’s post, “She’s just not that smart,” in reference to Ocasio-Cortez.

AOC fired back, “I wasn’t born rich and became the youngest woman in American history to be elected to Congress.”

“Then I investigated Cohen, authored the largest FEMA funeral assistance program in history and led creation of a US Climate Corps to create tens of thousands of new jobs. Stay mad,” she said.

Musk responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s post by congratulating her on “these epic achievements.” He continued, “However, have you considered, rather than ‘funeral assistance’, that FEMA focus its funding on preventing funerals in the first place?”

The contentious social media exchange comes just days after Ocasio-Cortez said she “absolutely” thinks there are grounds to oust McCarthy as speaker of the House because the United States government is “at the brink of a shutdown right now.”
