Army Identifies Sergeant As Alleged US Base Shooter

A U.S. army sergeant allegedly shot five fellow soldiers Tuesday at Fort Stewart in Georgia, according to a military spokesperson.

Third Infantry Division spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko identified the suspect as Quornelius Radford, 28, an automated logistics sergeant, during a press conference. A U.S. official said there are no reported fatalities at the time of publication, ABC News reported.

Authorities took a suspect into custody less than an hour after the first shots were fired, according to the base’s Facebook page. The commanding officer declared a lockdown after an active shooter was reported on the base, the U.S. Army Third Division posted online. The installation’s Facebook page gave an “all clear” for Fort Stewart, Wright Army Airfield and Evans Army Airfield shortly before 2 p.m. (RELATED: Gunman Storms Manhattan Skyscraper, Cop Wounded)

“Five soldiers were shot today in an active shooter incident in the 2nd ABCT complex at 10:56 a.m. All Soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. There is no active threat to the community,” the Facebook post read, adding that law enforcement responded to the incident at 1o:56 a.m.

“The shooter was apprehended at 11:35 a.m.,” the post added. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has been briefed regarding the incident and the White House was “monitoring the situation.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Atlanta bureau announced that it’s Savannah office was in communication with Army Criminal Division.

Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement on X. “As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Mary, the girls, and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Fort Stewart. We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same,” he wrote.
