A former Colorado art teacher faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, following a Friday night stabbing spree which was caught on video.
Matthew Regnier was also charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and child abuse, according to an affidavit obtained by KKTV. On Friday, an unidentified female called 911 to report a domestic disturbance. Eight minutes later, a male, who authorities identified as Regnier, called 911 and indicated he was also involved in the disturbance. (RELATED: UPS Cargo Plane Crashes In Kentucky)
Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a local residence in El Paso County, where they discovered three victims whose injuries were consistent with stab wounds, according to the affidavit. Both a male victim and a female victim were discovered unresponsive, while a second female victim was discovered partially responsive. Regnier was found on scene, fully naked and bloodied, holding a two-year-old male.

All three victims were transported to local hospitals. The male victim succumbed to his injuries. The child was also taken to a local hospital and was found to be free of any injuries. Regnier suffered a deep laceration to his third and fourth fingers on his left hand and claimed he’d been bitten.
During an interview at the police operations center, Regnier told officers he’d been choked or strangled in a fight and that one of his attackers allegedly touched his genitals, according to the affidavit. A forensic nurse examiner told police he was never medically evaluated at the hospital. Regnier also claimed the altercation was recorded on a cell phone and proved he acted in “self-defense” after a “three-on-one assault.”
Police were able to download and view the video and told Regnier the clip did not support his statement that he’d acted in self-defense as he was able to repeatedly escape the supposed strangulation.
Susan Reynolds, a local resident, reacted to the incident, telling KKTV the alleged stabbing was “hard to even fathom.”
“I have literally cried every day. It is just so shocking, it’s hard to even fathom that this could take place. Everyone is just really devastated. I mean, just wow, how could this happen in our neighborhood, in this quiet little neighborhood?” she said.
Regnier, 33, was an art teacher at Monument Academy, according to KKTV. His employment was terminated Sunday, and a spokesperson for the school called the alleged stabbing “heartbreaking,” the outlet reported.
Regnier was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon, KKTV indicated, citing jail records.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
