Barstool and Dave Portnoy raise $1.5 million for family of slain NYPD officer – Washington Examiner

Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy announced Thursday that he helped raise upward of $1.5 million for the family of the New York City Police Department officer who was killed during a traffic stop Monday.

“Thanks to everybody who donated,” Portnoy posted on X. “We raised 750k. With the matching of the funds that brings the total to 1.5 million that will go directly to the family.”

The money was raised through a T-shirt sale to honor the service and life of Officer Jonathan Diller, who leaves behind an infant and wife, Portnoy said in the announcement of the fundraiser.

“Every penny that we make goes to the family. On top of that, whatever we sell, whatever we make, end of the day, today, midnight, I’m just gonna match it,” Portnoy said in the announcement.

“Barstool, myself, we got a long history supporting the cops, supporting the boys in blue, supporting first responders,” he added. “It’s tragic. These guys go out, risk their lives. Routine traffic stop, and just two f***ing scumbags, who should be in prison … don’t know why they’re out, take a life.”

Both Portnoy and Barstool Sports have been lauded for their effort to help Diller’s family.

“Thanks Dave. As you said, it won’t fix the problem but it’s what we can do to help his family,” one person posted on X.
