Barstool raises upward of $240,000 for family of NYPD officer killed in traffic stop – Washington Examiner

Barstool Sports raised upward of $240,000 for the family of the New York City Police Department officer who was killed during a traffic stop on Monday, Barstool owner Dave Portnoy announced on Tuesday.

“I’m sure everybody has seen this story, tragic,” Portnoy said in the announcement posted to X. “The New York City cop, Jonathan Diller, who was murdered. Routine traffic stop, pull over two guys, a million priors, been in and out of jail a million times, and they just opened fire.”

Diller leaves behind an infant and wife, and Portnoy and Barstool are making sure they can help them.

“We put T-shirts on sale,” Portnoy said. “We’ve raised about [$230,000 to $240,000] directly for the family. Every penny that we make goes to the family. On top of that, whatever we sell, whatever we make, end of the day, today, midnight, I’m just gonna match it.”

Money cannot “cure” the tragic loss of Diller, but it’s the least Barstool can do, he said.

“Barstool, myself, we got a long history supporting the cops, supporting the boys in blue, supporting first responders,” Portnoy said. “It’s tragic. These guys go out, risk their lives. Routine traffic stop, and just two f***ing scumbags, who should be in prison … don’t know why they’re out, take a life.”

“It’s just awful,” he added. “So, whatever we can do to support it, we will.”
