Biden campaign flips ‘basement’ script on Trump as November looms – Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump mocked President Joe Biden for broadcasting from his basement during their pandemic-era 2020 campaigns.

But now, Biden’s 2024 aides are making fun of Trump for not campaigning traditionally since becoming the Republican presidential nominee this month.

“Since delivering his State of the Union address, President Biden has visited every battleground state across the country. Donald Trump has barely left Mar-a-Lago,” the Biden campaign told reporters on Tuesday. “Trump’s campaign is weak and cash-strapped. And in his rare public comments, Trump has embraced the same extreme vision and losing agenda.”

The Biden campaign cited Trump’s disputed comments regarding a “bloodbath” during his most recent rally before last week’s Ohio primaries, in addition to claims he would like to reform Social Security and introduce a national abortion ban.

“The choice could not be clearer and unlike Donald Trump, President Biden and Vice President [Kamala] Harris are running to win this November,” the Biden campaign said.

Trump was in New York this week because of New York Attorney General Letitia James‘s civil fraud trial against him, as well as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s criminal hush money case. Judge Juan Merchan set an April 15 trial start date for the latter on Monday, which will mark the first time a president will have to respond to criminal charges in court. Of the former, Trump welcomed a state appeals court decision reducing his bond to $175 million while the legal process for that matter plays out.

“I DID NOTHING WRONG, AND NEW YORK SHOULD NEVER BE PUT IN A POSITION LIKE THIS AGAIN,” Trump wrote on social media on Monday. “BUSINESSES ARE FLEEING, VIOLENT CRIME IS FLOURISHING, AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THIS BE RESOLVED IN ITS TOTALITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU!”

The Biden campaign has become increasingly critical of Trump eight months before November’s general election, sometimes in deeply personal terms.

“Donald Trump is weak and desperate — both as a man and a candidate for president,” Biden campaign spokesman James Singer said on Monday after Trump’s New York court appearances. “He spent the weekend golfing, the morning comparing himself to Jesus, and the afternoon lying about having money he definitely doesn’t have.”

Biden and Harris will be in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Tuesday, with their campaign underscoring their attempts to expand their electoral map.

“In 2020, Georgia was the closest state in the country won by President Biden, and North Carolina was the closest state in the country won by Donald Trump, making them both extremely competitive states where early investment makes a difference,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez wrote in a memo on Tuesday.
