President Joe Biden denied criticism of his term as president, arguing that “nothing” he has proposed while in the White House has been “extreme.”
The president’s statement was made in an interview published Sunday, in which he criticized “MAGA Republicans” and his fear that lawmakers who support former President Donald Trump will win in the 2024 elections. Biden, who is running for reelection, is facing unfavorable poll numbers, with a majority at 58%, saying that his policies have made the United States’s economic conditions worse, according to data released last month.

“Look, if you take a look at all I proposed, they’re overwhelmingly popular with the American people,” Biden told ProPublica. “Nothing I’ve proposed is extreme! For example, dealing with investing in America and increasing manufacturing, creating jobs, creating a position where we put more money into education, where we just make everybody pay their fair share. Those things, as measured, broadly, they’re popular across the board.”

Biden is also facing questions about his age as he seeks a second term. Biden will turn 81 years old later this year. A NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll found that 72% of registered voters said Biden’s age would be a factor in their decision on who to vote for in the 2024 election.
Biden was also asked about Elon Musk‘s purchase of the social media platform Twitter, which has since been rebranded as X. The president criticized Musk’s changes to the platform, arguing that people do not have a reliable guardrail for misinformation.
“They go on the internet, they go online, and you have no notion whether it’s true or not,” Biden said.
