President Joe Biden predicted Friday that Gaza will begin receiving humanitarian aid through the Rafah crossing this weekend.
His comments came after brokering a deal with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi earlier this week to open their side of the border for one-way travel into Gaza.

“I got a commitment from the Israelis and the president of Egypt that the crossing will be open,” Biden told reporters Friday during a trilateral meeting at the White House with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “Highway had to be repaved. It was in very bad shape, and I believe that within the next 24 to 48 hours, the first 20 trucks will come across the border.”
Biden previously stated that, initially, 20 trucks of humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza would be allowed through the Rafah gate, with future shipments under potential consideration. The president added that the deal would be void in the event that Hamas terrorists seized any of the aid.

“If Hamas does not divert or steal this shipment — these shipments, we’re going to provide an opening for sustained delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians,” the president said during his Thursday night national address on the wars in Israel and Ukraine.
