President Joe Biden‘s campaign is looking to a constituency that has largely been dominated by Republicans as the president seeks to win Wisconsin en route to securing another term in November.
Former President Donald Trump has been propelled by his core of white voters without a college degree, but Biden’s ability to make a dent in his dominance may be his key to another term in the White House. An analysis from the Washington Post shows that Biden performed stronger than expected with white voters without a college degree in 2020 and that his performance with the group will be pivotal for his chances in the swing state in November.
“In order to win, Democrats have to overperform — by a lot — with white working-class voters in the state, because most voters in Wisconsin are white working-class voters,” Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler told the outlet. “No one who’s active in politics forgets that for a second.”
The outlet outlined the Biden campaign’s efforts in rural parts of the state as it looks to repeat a victory over Trump in Wisconsin. The efforts include 47 campaign offices in the Badger State, which is reportedly more than Biden has in any other battleground state and far more than the GOP has in Wisconsin.
A CNN exit poll from the 2020 election showed Trump won white voters without college degrees over Biden, 67%-32%, but when looking specifically at Wisconsin, it shows Trump won the group by a narrower margin, 57%-41%.
Most recent polls have shown Trump narrowly leading Biden, but there have been some signs of vulnerability with the key demographic for Trump.

Another key group, rural male voters, has also had decreased support for Trump, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis of polling between 2020 and 2024. The analysis showed Trump’s net favorability has dropped by double digits among rural men and white men without a college degree, two key groups in his base.
Several polls have shown that Trump has seen some increased support from minority voters but that Biden still dominates in that category.
